Nu är det bara 3 FG kvar på säsongen. Dagens FG samlade hela 82 spelare. Vi har fått uppleva en förhållandevis "blåsfri" säsong. Även denna gång fick vi lätta vindar. Dock var det ganska så varmt. Vi spelade i Dam- och Herr-klass individuellt och gemensam klass i lag.
Göran och Rolf hade köpt in 48 flaskor Frontier från Guardian Peak till prisbordet.

The Swedish ”Friday Golf” celebrates 10 year at Strand Golf Club

The Swedish community in Somerset West, Strand and Gordon's Bay has gradually expanded to include around 300 people today. Many of them gather every Friday at Strand Golf Club and play a golf tournament, which, unsurprisingly, has been named The Friday Golf tournament. Last Friday, the 26^th of February, the weekly event celebrated its tenth anniversary, and 100 Swedish players participated in the tournament and the subsequent dinner at the golf club. It was an enjoyable competition, a lovely dinner and very pleasant company throughout the whole day and evening. 161 Friday Golf tournaments have taken place in these ten years, and engaged a total of 581 participants, representing all categories from players on the European Tour to players with the handicap of 30+.

During these ten years, the Swedish community has engaged in extensive charity work, and donated approximately R1 000 000 in funding, mainly to underprivileged children in The Helderberg and the Winelands. The funds have partly been raised by the initiative of the Friday Golf, but also through projects initiated by Swedish groups and individuals, or private donations to sponsor disadvantaged children with tuition fees, school uniforms, etc.

The Friday Golf tournament participants have in recent years raised and donated around R300 000 to various projects. There are primarily two major Swedish projects that are especially worth mentioning. The first one is The Glasses Project in the township of Kayamandi, where two Swedish optometrists, assisted by other members of the community, examine and fit glasses to underprivileged inhabitants of the township during a number of Saturdays each year. More than 1 000 new and used pair of glasses has up until now found new owners in Kayamandi as a result of this project. The second project is The Imibala Cup, a big annual golf event arranged by a Swedish couple and an important highlight on the social calendar of the Swedish community, which raise around R100 000 each year for the Imibala Trust Sponsor-a-Child Programme. Other projects include sponsoring of school desks and chairs to Gordon High School in Somerset West, donations for food to Sir Lowry's Pass Village’s soup kitchen, donations to Sir Lowry's Pass Primary School to enable them to start up computer training, and also funds for educating the learners in the noble art of cultivating vegetables.

The Swedish community would like to express their warm, heartfelt thanks to the Strand Golf Club for excellent cooperation in the past ten years, and at the same time take the opportunity to thank all newfound friends and neighbours, who so warmly have welcomed the Swedish community to The Helderberg area.

Till detta kan läggas att FG också sponsrat Bizweni Centre for disabled children med sammanlagt R31 000 genom åren samt donerat en Hjärtstartare till Strand GC för R18 000.
